Agfa manages a large and technically complex patent portfolio. Its IP team regularly evaluates patent validity and responds to examination objections. This work requires reviewing extensive scientific literature and prior art while interpreting highly specialized patent language. The process is time-consuming and places significant pressure on capacity. With rising application costs and long prosecution timelines, Agfa was looking for a solution that could integrate AI into its workflow in a responsible and legally robust way.
Through its partnership with ClaimWise, Agfa implemented an AI tool built around the official workflows of European patent attorneys. Using argument-specific AI agents trained on EPO case law and examination guidelines, ClaimWise helps structure validity analyses and strengthen legal reasoning. As a result, Agfa’s IP team reduced the time spent on assessments while increasing consistency and confidence in their arguments, positioning AI as a reliable sparring partner in their daily practice.
